Sgt Presley' POV in Afghanistan
'PRAY WITHOUT CEASING' ”
(From "The Record" American Bible Society...written by Elizabeth Smith)
Phil Presley believes in what he’s doing and the miracles keep coming. He makes a living in California as an executive
recruiter for hotels and thanks God for his job. But his passion is his work as a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
volunteer chaplain. For years he’s worked in that capacity for the Red Cross and the L. A. Dodgers. He feels called
to a ministry of “compassionate care.”
Phil was pulled into praying daily, starting July 6, 2004, for the soldiers, marines, and other servicemen and
women being deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and recently, Israel. Since then not one day has passed when the network of some
20,000 pastors and laypeople receiving Phil’s e-mails hasn’t prayed for these countrymen.
Each day’s e-mail includes the names and ranks of six servicemen. Phil recommends praying, “Father, we humbly
ask that your hedge of protection and charge of angels be around them in their going out and coming in. Keep them from all
problems and pain, grant them peace and success in all that they do by your power for his glory.”
Thousands of military Bibles have been given out to these servicemen from the American Bible Society. One “miracle”
Phil marvels over is the recent safe return of an entire unit of 781 soldiers of the 101st airborne. After 500 missions covering
65,000 miles of desert in Iraq, every single one of them came home. He credits the “incredible work of the Holy Spirit”
for this.
You can be added to Phil Presley’s prayer chain e-mail list by sending him an e-mail at philpresley@earthlink.net. “Even
Christians who aren’t mobile can pray,” he says.
Listen To KWAVE interview with Chaplain Steve Brown and Phil Presley
I was part of ministerial teams at Ground Zero in October 2001 and 2002, and as
We approach the five-year anniversary my thoughts are just as deep and fresh as
They were then.
I still have tears in my eyes as I watch any news stories or documentaries; the
Smells of a city burning, the sight of acrid smoke are still as prevalent now as
They were before. I recall the look of fear and terror in the eyes of those
People as I listened to their stories and watched how God worked through me and
Team members as comfort came to them.
Each 9/11, I urge people that they do not have to go to New York to comfort
People at Ground Zero; they only have to look around their own neighborhood and
Reach out to their neighbors going through their own World Trade Center
Disaster.
For anyone who was involved or ministered, the process of healing has been slow
But has given us all a special viewpoint in identifying others who were hurting.
So I urge all who read this to reach out to a neighbor who is hurting. An
Illness, a loss, whatever the case, this is how God can continue to turn an
Event that was meant for evil for good.
"That I may know him and the Power of his resurrection, the Fellowship of his suffering." Philipians 3:10

Shock and awe, insurgents, roadside bombs, Sunni Triangle... Before the war in Iraq, these terms seldom if ever graced our
vocabulary. Now, with the onslaught of terrorism around the world and the extended military campaign in Iraq, they seem as
common to us as the sports report and weather forecast. But is there more to the story than meets the eye? In this book, Ryan
Krause takes you on a journey through the activity of God as He works to accomplish His perfect will and purpose even in the
most arduous of environments...the Battlefield.
